Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted over at The Broke and The Bookish, and this weeks theme is:
Movie Freebie — top ten all time favorite movies, top ten foreign films, top ten rom-coms, top ten 90’s movies, top ten action flicks, top ten tear-jerkers, top ten movies your favorite actor/actress is in, top ten movies with PoC leads, etc. etc.)
This week I decided to keep it simple and go with ten of my current favourite films!
1. The Avengers
You might not know this, but I love superhero movies. And this was probably the first one that really showed me how great the genre could be.
2. Captain America: Civil War
As I said, I’m a sucker for superhero movies.
3. Star Trek Beyond
I watched this on the plane out to Japan and it was love at first viewing. I’ve been a huge fan of the franchise since the first reboot film (and long before that, when I used to watch The Original Series and Next Gen as a kid), and I think this was the best one so far. (Also, how beautiful is this film poster?!)
4. Tangled
Honestly, it was hard not to just make this entire list out of Disney films. I adore Tangled and it made me weep, laugh, and sing (quietly) in the cinema the first time I saw it. (I also have long blonde hair, so I get compared to Rapunzel a lot which pleases me immensely.)
5. Mulan
Mulan is another of my favourite Disney films. You just can’t beat films about badass women saving their country.
6. Toy Story 3
To me, Toy Story 3 was about as perfect an ending to a trilogy as you can get. That’s why I’m rather worried that they’ve announced a fourth film, but I’m trying to remain optimistic that it’ll be just as good.
7. Serenity
When I found out there was only one season of Firefly, a little piece of my heart broke. But thankfully Serenity was a piece of cinematic brilliance that answered many of the questions left unanswered in the final episode, and rounded the series off beautifully.
8. Sherlock Holmes A Game of Shadows
I thought the first film in the Guy Richie franchise was excellent, but then we were hit with this fireball and I had to rethink my whole ratings system. It had drama, it has sass, it had RDJ’s wonderful British accent. It was gold.
9. Inception
I’m a huge fan of films that are clever at their core; they make you think and offer ambitious, inventive ideas about society. In short, I’m a fan of films that are smart. And Inception, in every scene and every line, is smart.
10. Dead Poets Society
As someone who studied a Language and Literature degree and then a Linguistics degree, this film just spoke to me. It’s all about the power of words and how we can use language to inspire and do incredible things and it’s just so beautifully directed. If you’ve never seen DPS you need to go and watch it now.
So there you go! Those are ten of my favourites (and believe me, it was hard to narrow it down!). What are some of your favourite films? Are any on this list?
As always, if you’ve done TTT this week, feel free to hit me up with a link!
Nice ! Those are some truly excellent choice. Inception is truly fantastic, and I am both a Star Trek and Superhero film fan myself. Firefly getting cancelled is so heartbreaking that I don’t even want to talk about it (lol). You can find a few of my favorite films in Article I wrote on my own blog: Special Features Presents: to rewatch or to not rewatch 😀 Great post!
Ah, thank you! Sounds like we have a lot of film favourites in common! Yeah, I think Firefly’s cancellation is a tough subject for all fans, but on the plus side we got a great film out of it!
I love your list! When I listen to the Tangled soundtrack, it still puts a smile on my face 🙂 One of these days I’ll finish Firefly, so I can watch Serenity and finally know what I’ve been missing.
Aww thanks! Yeah, the Tangled soundtrack is so fun, and I See The Light is especially beautiful. Yes! Definitely watch Serenity, it’s such a thrill-ride!
I loved Inception so much. Dreams have always fascinated me and this film was amazing. And Tangled is so good. I love that movie so much! Great list.
Yes! It was a brilliant take on a fascinating topic. And Tangled gives me all the feels. Every time. Thank you! 🙂
I have only watched Inception on this list.However. the last book really interests me because I studied the same thing. My undergrad degree was in Language and Literary Studies with a major in Linguistics(we could major in Linguistics, Literature on Creative Arts). I definitely need to read that book. Great post!
Great picks for this week Kate. I love anything Marvel so The Avengers could have easily made it onto my list this week as well. I still remember the first time I saw it because it was like nothing I’d ever seen before!
And I love anything Disney too but Tangled is one of my all-time favourites! 😀
Aww thank you! Marvel is one of my favourite fandoms, their films always get me so excited. And I felt the same the first time I saw the Avengers! Also most of my wordpress time today has been chatting back and forth with you, and it’s been great! 🙂
That’s all right, and same here actually. Anything Marvel releases I will put at the top of my to-watch list. It has been great and I can’t believe I wasn’t following you before today either! I’ve rectified that now though! 🙂
Yessss, whenever I see that Marvel logo, I get so excited! Aww thanks my lovely! :3
Ahh, we have such similar taste in movies! 😊🙌
Yay! *hi-fives*
