Top Ten Tuesday // Places in books I’d love to live

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s theme is:

March 30: Places In Books I’d Love to Live

There are a few real-world places I’d love to try living and a few fantasy world I wouldn’t mind trying either, so I’ve picked five of each for this post.

I’d love to try living in South Korea or San Francisco, where The Silence of Bones and Last Night at the Telegraph Club are set (respectively). Both places sound wonderful (I’ve visited SF once before and I loved it) and I’d love to spend an extended period of time there.

Similarly, I’d love to live in London (the main setting of Boyfriend Material) or Prague (the setting for DOSAB) to enjoy the big cities. I’ve visited both places and they have a sort of magnetism that makes me want to go back again and again.

I was lucky enough to live in Japan for a short period and loved it so much. I didn’t stay in Tokyo, where Strange Weather in Tokyo is set, so I’d love to go back and live there for a bit.

Full disclosure: I haven’t read The Rise of Kyoshi yet, but I really like the ATLA world with the different types of bending (I would protect Aang and Korra with my life), so I’d love to spend a bit of time there.

I also love the world of The Prince and the Dressmaker (minus the prejudices please and thanks) and would love to live in one of the beautiful town houses in the story and help Frances make dresses (even though I’d probably be bad at it).

The Priory of the Orange Tree, City of Brass, and Wicked As You Wish all have such amazing magic systems that I would mind if I was dropped into one of those worlds and ended up able being able to hang out with the main characters. I also wouldn’t mind if I ended up with little bit of magic. Wouldn’t mind that at all.

Which book settings would you like to live in? Would you follow me into any of these worlds?
