Books that the Goodreads Choice Awards reminded me I want to read

It’s that time of year again folks. It’s Goodreads Choice Awards season, where we get the chance to vote for our favourite books of the year.

Although, the awards have definite issues (they too often promote problematic books, sideline indie releases, and shortlist a disproportionate number of white authors compared to authors of colour, to name a few) it’s a great chance to support the authors you love.

And this year, I discovered an added bonus. While going through the categories and making my selections, I was reminded of a lot of books that I still want to read before 2020 is over.

I thought I’d share these books with you so you can see which nominees I’m keen to pick up.

If I Had Your Face

I bought myself a lovely signed copy of this over the summer but sadly haven’t found the chance to read it yet. Hopefully I can make time before the end of 2020.

Beach Read

I was lucky enough to get a Netgalley ARC of this earlier in the year but the perfect season to read it in (summer) has passed me by. Hopefully I can make this an out-of-season read soon.

Take a Hint, Dani Brown

I read Get a Life, Chloe Brown earlier this year and loved it, so I’m really eager to read the second book in this companion series, especially because I’ve heard so many rave reviews for it.

Something to Talk About

The publisher kindly offered me an e-ARC of this romance novel and I definitely want thank them by reading and reviewing it before the year is over.

Hench

This is a recent release and a recent addition to my TBR, so I was excited to see it nominated for a Goodreads Choice Award. The question is, can I read it before the award winners are announced?

The Space Between Worlds

I have a copy of the beautiful Illumicrate edition of this novel and it’s very high up on my TBR, sitting on my bedside table waiting to be picked up soon.

My Dark Vanessa

This was a birthday gift from my friend Do and it sounds like a dark, intriguing read so I definitely want to get to it soon.

Felix Ever After

This is a book that I’ve been desperate to read for ages and I just haven’t made the time for it?? Charvi has been encouraging me to read this for months, so I definitely want to pick it up before the end of 2020.

This book is nominated for Best Young Adult Fiction.

Grown

I’ve not read any of Tiffany D. Jackson’s work (shame on me) and I’ve decided that I want this to be the first of her books that I read. It’s on Scribd, so I’ll be reading it on audio.

Cinderella is Dead

I don’t generally go in for fairy tale retellings all that much but a queer f/f Cinderella retelling? Sign me the HECK up.

This book is nominated for Best Young Adult Fantasy and Science Fiction.

Legendborn

To say that I’m interested in this book is an understatement. It’s a YA Arthurian legend retelling and I’m a massive fan of Arthurian legend stories. This one sounds fresh and exciting and has great reviews, so I’m eager to read it before 2021.

Girl, Serpent, Thorn

This was (and still is) one of my most anticipated releases of 2020 and I still haven’t read it? I’m an embarrassment. But hopefully I’ll only be an embarrassment for another month or so until I’ve read it.

A Song of Wraiths and Ruin

This story has one of my favourite romance tropes in it: enemies to lovers. It’s also inspired by West African folklore and I’m looking forward to listening to the audiobook.
