Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This weeks theme is:
July 14: Books That Make Me Smile
This one was hard to narrow down, because I’m forever smiling and making heart eyes at cute moments in stories.
But I’ve picked ten books that I remember made me grin with wild abandon.
My So-Called Bollywood Life

*gets out megaphone* I ADORED THIS BOOK. There were so many lovely scenes between Winnie and Dev that made me smile instantly, and the relationship Winnie had with her family was high-key wonderful.
Boyfriend Material

I read this book recently and virtually every chapter made me smile and laugh. There are so many cute, burgeoning romantic moments that made me smile and when I finished the last page I was definietly making an *UWU* face.
You Should See Me in a Crown

This book gave me so many reasons to smile: a warm sapphic romance, a brilliant prom scene, and the main character, Liz, getting a happy ending. It was wonderfully uplifting in so many ways.
Pumpkinheads

This chaotic fun of this graphic novel was guaranteed to make me smile. And it did, many many times. The main characters run from place to place across the pumpkin patch and get into hijinks (such an underrated word?) along the way, and it’s just soft, heart-warming fun.
The Black Veins

What made me smile about this book was the characters and their moments of innocent awe and happiness. Antonio in particular was my favourite and a complete sweetheart. All his scenes and dialogue made me smile. Check out my full review of the Black Veins and Q&A with the author here.
The House in the Cerulean Sea

There were so many moments of pure joy in this book that made me smile unreservedly. A lot of these moments involved Linus bonding with the children, but others included Linus and Arthur getting to know each other, and Arthur’s secret being revealed.
Tweet Cute

This is an enemies to lovers romance between Jack and Pepper and, as with many enemies-to-lovers books, the moments where they began to like each other instead of despising each other make me grin. A lot.
Don’t Date Rosa Santos

If you want a feel-good, family-oriented, make-you-smile each time you pick it up kind of book, then this is your book. Whether it was Rosa’s bad luck or her plans for the fair/festival, this book was constantly making me smile.
Proud

After three or four stories in this anthology, I lost track of how many times I smiled. Some of these stories are sad and more serious, but some are so full of love and light that you can’t help but grin.
The Paper and Hearts Society

This lovely YA story about friendship, family, and finding ‘your people’ has warmth, heart, and upbeat messages about being true to yourself. The road trip scenes and the nods to Shakespeare gave me a lot of reasons to smile.
Which books make you smile? Are there any books that are your go-to reads if you need a cheerful, uplifting book.

Oh, this is such a lovely prompt, I’m definitely in need for some wholesome, happy books 🥰Pumpkinheads was definitely a book that put me in a good mood as well, it’s got minimal conflict and is full of fun and friendship! I also love how happy the Heartstopper comics make me feel – it seems like graphic novels are a great way for me to feel good 😊
I’m listening to the audiobook for Boyfriend Material as we speak and loving every second of it. The narration is incredible!
Great list! I’ve heard amazing things about The House in the Cerulean Sea and Don’t Date Rosa Santos, so I need to try them.
I forgot to include Pumkinheads on my list, it really made me smile too. You Should See Me in a Crown and The House in the Cerulean Sea have been on a lot of peoples lists for this week’s topic and even though they are both already on my tbr list, it’s making me want to read them sooner!
Yeah, it was such a feel-good graphic novel! You Should See Me in a Crown and The House in the Cerulean Sea are both lovely, soft novels!
Boyfriend Material has developed quite the reputation for this weeks topic. It’s making me more excited to read it now. Don’t Date Rosa Santos sounds like such a fun book as well.
Honestly, it’s such a funny book! I’d definitely recommend it 😀
