Top Ten Tuesday // Books I borrowed from my library because I thought I’d have time to read them…

But then didn’t.

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. This week’s theme is:

April 7: Books I Bought/Borrowed Because…

Since this week’s is a ‘choose your own topic’ prompt, I’ve decided to go for books I borrowed from my library because I thought I’d have time to read them…but then didn’t.

Unfortunately, this happens to me quite often. Usually it’s because I get excited and borrow four or five books at once, but only have time to read two or three before I have to return them.

So, grab a drink, grab a snack, and let’s jump right in.

On the Come Up

I still can’t believe I didn’t get to this when I had a copy checked out from my library. But thankfully, I’ve now bought myself a copy so I can pick it up whenever I have time.

The Wicked King

26032887. sy475

I was reading other library books when I had this on loan and someone reseved it, so I had to give it back. But, if I’m being honest, I’m not too sad that I didn’t read it.

This is going to be an unpopular opinion (*hides*), but I didn’t love The Cruel Prince and I’ve lost interest in this series, so I’m probably not going to finish it.

Orlando

18839. sy475

I had this out on audio a few weeks ago, but I was reading the Little Women audiobook so I didn’t prioritise this one.

And now I’m reading other audiobooks and it’ll be a while before I can get back to it. But I will do in the end.

The Kiss Quotient

36199084. sy475 Yep. Another audiobook that I checked out at the same time as Orlando and Little Women.

If we’re going to blame someone I think we really have to blame Little Women for being so long and enjoyable that I took my time over it and didn’t get to anything else. Definitely not my fault at all.

The Library at Mount Char

26892110 I checked this out at the same time as This Is How You Lose the Time War and I read Time War and adored it. But then had to move on to some arcs and didn’t have time to read this before the return date.

I’m still mad at myself for not getting to this because apparently it’s great (Victoria Schwab recommends it a lot) and it’s about libraries!

Bear Town

52292127. sx318 sy475 I hope my friend Jaz isn’t reading this otherwise she’s not going to be impressed that I STILL haven’t read this. But, again, I checked it out from the library with another book and didn’t have a chance to get to it. *hides*

Ponti

I was initially drawn in by the cover when I saw this at my library so I read the blurb and checked it out.

Didn’t have time to read it. Cried.

And then through a stroke of luck or twist of universe magic/fate/the book gods, the publisher very kindly sent me a copy!

Outlander

10964. sy475

I got this out from my library AGES ago, but I was reading other, shorter books so I returned it.

And honestly? I’ve lost interest in reading it. I’ve heard some less-than-great things about the series and a lot of the hype for it has died down now that the TV show is finished. So, for better or worse, I think I’ll give it a miss.

Queenie

36586697

I wish wish WISH I’d made time for this when I had it checked out because now my library is closed due to the pandemic, and they don’t have an e-book version on the app so I won’t be able to get to it for a while.

It’s my own fault, but I’m still allowed to be mad (at myself) about it.

Small Town Hearts

36192190

I checked this out a few months back, read two chapters, got really into it, had to start a book for a blog tour, didn’t finish it, and had to return it.

I need to get it back out again because it has a bi character and I was INTO IT.

Which books do you desperately want to read? Do you use your local library often, or their online catalog?

Until next time,KateNEW

  1. I have such a bad habit of checking out ebooks for the library and forgetting about them until they’re automatically returned! The one I can think of at the moment is How to be Remy Cameron, which I ended up buying the ebook for!

    1. Ooh yes, I definitely do that too, even though most of the ones on my list were audiobooks or physcial books! At least the saving grace with e-books and audiobooks is that they return automatically and you don’t incur any fines!

  2. I don’t use my library anywhere near often enough. But I happen to have visited before lock down so I’ve now got plenty of time to read the 2 books I borrowed. I probably still won’t get around to them but at least I’ve got more time…

  3. I’m definitely a victim of doing the same (in fact I’ve got plenty of library books sitting on my shelves right now!).
I’m currently making good use of my library’s online catalogue because of the situation at the moment and feeling very thankful to have it.

  5. Great list! You’re not alone – I have a bad habit of borrowing more books than I can read, too. I’ve reserved Queenie from my library – I imagine it’ll be a while before I get my hands on it, though!

  6. I have done the same thing with a few of these. Bear Town, for example. That was even a book club read! Bummer! Still on the TBR though! I definitely recommend getting through the ones that I have read though….T.H.U.G. and Outlander for sure! 🙂

  7. The kiss quotient & Small town hearts are on my virtual wanna read too!

I use my libby app very often, like every 2-3books read; alternating between Arcs & physicals. One time I borrowed two audiobooks (Shiver and I dont know what else) but ended up prioritizing to an arc and never went back xD
