Top Ten Tuesday // 2020 YA covers I’m in love with

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. This week’s theme is

January 7: Most Anticipated Book Releases for the First Half of 2020

I’ve actually got a post coming next week about my anticipated releases for the first and second halves of 2020, so for today’s post, I’m going to share some of the covers I love instead.

42185079. sy475 The Sound of Stars

This cover literally gives me goosebumps, it’s so atmospheric. The bend of blue and pink (presumably signifying the opposing forces of alien and human) comes together with deep purple tones in the middle.

And if the clouds aren’t beautiful enough, the city in the background and its reflection in the water are unreal. I look at this cover every day and count myself lucky to have an ARC. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

45184250Wicked As You Wish

This is a prime example of how you can make a cover reasonably simply and yet still very complex, and very effective.

The bright text offset against the dark background works wonders here, and I can’t enough enough of the colours.

Also, the fact that each letter is different is brilliant.

Empress of Salt and Fortune

This cover is beautiful in an aggressive kind of way and so different to most covers.

The hare looks like she will shred you if you come close and I’m here for it. It’s all sharp lines and contrasting tones and I find it very dynamic.

We Are Totally Normal

Who doesn’t love a sunset cover?

I LOVE A SUNSET COVER. And then add to guys gazing into each others eyes into the foreground?

Sold, to the weeping girl with the blog.

Incendiary

The proofs for these just dropped at Hodderscape yesterday and they look stunning. The foiling over the deep red background and down the spine is just *chef’s kiss*.

Star Daughter

LOOK AT THIS COVER, THOUGH. LOOK AT HER.

LOOK AT THAT ART, LOOK AT THOSE COLOURS.

OK, I’m done screaming, send tweet.

The Henna Wars

The artwork on this cover is so sweet and lovely to look at.

The way their hands are almost touching and their facial expressions are kind of mesmerising. I, for one, am obsessed.

45554589. sy475 Forest of Souls

Sirscha, the hero of the story, is on this cover, and I honestly can’t decide if I want to be her, or ask for her hand in marriage.

She looks like she could scorch you with a glare and I love it. Her whole expression and eye colour are unreal.

34916578. sy475 Bone Crier’s Moon

In the vein of me crying over artfully drawn people on covers, here’s some more gorgeous artwork that I can’t get enough of.

I just really like the way they’re surrounded by the forest and their expressions are so, well, expressive???

Seasons of the Storms

This whole aesthetic is just wonderful. I’m a big fan of blended colours on covers (*cough* The Sound of Stars *cough*) and I really like the contrast between light and dark here.

Plus, if you zoom in on the cover you can see that the left side shows the flowers blooming in summer and the right side shows them in winter, covered in frost. We stan a strong bit of imagery.

Which 2020 covers are you obsessed with? Are there any particular colours you love to see on YA covers? (We all know I love a good sunset)

Until next time,KateNEW
