Top Ten Tuesday // Reading by numbers

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. This week’s theme:

October 1: Book Titles with Numbers In Them

Ooof this week’s theme shouldn’t be that hard, but off the top of my head, there are only a few books I can think of that have numbers in the title. I can definitely conjure a few more, though.

I decided not to go for numbers 1-10 for this topic; instead I’ve chosen books that stand out to me personally as being well known for the number they’re associated with.

Nine

I’ve not read this book, but I’ve seen it when browsing through my library app and might read it at some point. When the number nine comes to mind, this is the book I immediately think of.

 

 

Seven

This was the first book that came to mind for this week’s theme, simply because it’s become such a favourite among the book community.

Shamefully, I still haven’t read it, but I’m hoping to before the end of the year.

 

Six

Of course Six of Crows was going to be on this list. It’s one of my all-time favourite books of all time and I love my six misfits. I can’t really think of the number six without thinking of this book.

 

 

Five

I read this book a few years ago for university, and enjoyed it a lot. It’s dark, well-written, and plays with genre conventions in a way that not many others of its time did.

I hadn’t actually thought about it in a while, but this week’s TTT theme brought it all back.

 

Two

I read this book a few years ago and I enjoyed it, although it didn’t really have a lasting impact. It’s a cute, gay love story – as the title suggests – about two boys who start to have feelings for each other.

 

 

Two

I’ve not read this book but it’s received so much hype and promotion this year that it immediately came to mind when I was thinking of books with numbers in the title.

 

 

 

One

This book is one that really made me cry. (*laughs internally for four years*)

But I do think the title works well for the book because it’s about the togetherness of the two main characters.

 

 

49 

Random number I guess, but I studied this book at university and it sticks in my head as the only book that I know that uses 49.

 

 

 

1000

This seems like a pretty popular number in YA books. There’s something about it that seems grand when used in a title so perhaps that’s why.

Umm, see above I guess?

But seriously, I feel like 1000 works well for fantasy and sci-fi novels (which both of these are) because there’s something strangely infinite about it. That infiniteness works to convey unlimited power and potential, which YA novels love. And if  you can get both those things into the title, you’re onto a winner.

Ironically, my favourite/lucky number is three and I didn’t include a book here with the number three.
