Top Ten Tuesday // Favourite snacks to enjoy while reading

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. This week’s theme:

September 17: Favorite Things to Eat/Drink While Reading

I like to have a good snack while reading, as long as it’s not too messy, so I’m sharing a few of my favourites. (Spoilers: they’re all vegan.)

Oh yes. My number one beverage. My go drink at all times of the year.

I love tea and I always like to have a mug on hand while I’m reading. Strongly brewed, good amount of soya milk, no sugar.

In the summer, I get so addicted to smoothies. Give me all that sweet, healthy goodness. Sometimes I like chocolate-based smoothies, but for the most part I like fresh fruit drinks to go alongside a summery book.

A light snack I like to enjoy while reading (as long as it doesn’t get all over my book) is popcorn.

My favourite flavour is the Propercorn almond and peanut butter flavour, which is just delicious.

OK, these are my guilty pleasure. They’re so salty, but so good. I’ve got really addicted to them recently, and they’re a great snack to devour when reading.

I like a good bowl of fruit as a snack, and raspberries are some of my favourites!

I don’t get to eat these very often, because there’s not a Pret near where I live or work, but their almond butter chocolates are unbelievably good. On the rare occasion I’m actually able to buy some, they’re a great reading treat. Messy though.

These candy kittens are some of my favourite sweets around, and they’re completely vegan. I don’t eat more than a few at a time, but they’re a great snack when reading (as long as you lick the sugar off your fingers).

Again, this is a rare treat for me because 1. there are few places near me that have sushi, and 2. there are even fewer places near me that have vegan sushi. But I do love sushi, so when I can get it, I do.

If I’m reading in the morning or at lunch time and it coincides with a meal, I like to have porridge. It’s not particularly fancy, but for some reason it’s just one of my favourite foods, hands down.

I rarely drink coffee, but every now and then, if I’m out at a cafe and it’s cold, I like to treat myself to a chai latte and a good book. Forget PSL, chai is where it’s at.

What are some of your favourite snacks and drinks to enjoy while reading?

  1. Oh I love that blog post! I don’t really eat while reading because it’s stresses me out but I do love to have a cup of coffee or a latte with me whenever I read. If I want to eat anything, it’d be popcorns, pieces of an apple or some porridge, so I guess we are quite similar on those 😀

  2. Oh Tea is such a reading beverage, I love sitting down with a mug of tea in the evening and get cozy (and chocolate is always a plus) 🍵🥰 I do love sitting down in a coffee shop and reading a bit too sometimes 🙂

  3. I so wish I liked tea – as a Brit it’s a wonder I haven’t been disowned yet – but other than hot chocolate in the winter, I don’t really like hot drinks. I need to check out some vegan snacks; I’d like some healthier snacks in my bag!

    1. I know quite a few people who don’t like it, so you’re definitely not alone! I don’t drink much hot chocolate because it’s hard to find vegan versions (in cafes), but I just prefer hot drinks in winter generally because they warm me back up! Some of the vegan snacks that have been brought out in the last year are so good! The popcorn I mentioned and the candy cat sweets are particularly good!
