This month, I’m excited to be taking part in Asian readathon, hosted by Cindy, Sandra, Chloe, Kav, and Ellias.
The readathon starts on 1st May and ends on 31st and the aim is to read books by Asian authors. There are five reading challenges, and I’ve decided to try and hit all five of them (with a few extra books along the way 😉 ).
Challenge 1: Read a book by an Asian author
Challenge 2: Read a graphic novel featuring an Asian character or written/drawn by an Asian author (manga, manhua, manhwa, and comics count).
Challenge 3: Read a book featuring an intersectional Asian character or written by an intersectional Asian identity (i.e. queer, mixed, disabled, neurodiverse, etc).
Challenge 4: Read a book by Asian author that was originally written in their native language (translated books and graphic novels count).
Challenge 5: Read the group book: A Thousand Beginnings and Endings by Ellen Oh, which will be covered in the live show on Saturday, May 25 at 6pm EST on Cindy’s channel.
I’m really keen to pick up American Panda and A Thousand Beginnings and Endings because I’ve owned both of those for a while, and I don’t want them to remain unread on my shelves any longer.
I’m also determined to get back into Bleach, since it was one of my favourite manga series when I was a teenager. I stopped reading it a few years ago when I started reading more fantasy and YA books, and I never ended up finishing the series. But that’s going to change this year.
Cindy, Sandra, Chloe, Kav, and Ellias have compiled a huge master list of Asian books, so if you’re looking to read more diversely they’ve got you covered.
Are you taking part in Asian readathon? What are you reading in May?
Ooh, I hadn’t heard of this readathon before but I love the idea and the prompts. I haven’t yet got a copy of A Thousand Beginnings and Endings but I really want to read it! perhaps I will try to join in…
Ooh yay, I hope you manage to pick up the book! Did you decide to join in with the readathon, or just read casually? 😀
At the time, I thought I would probably join the readathon but I am terribly disorganized so have probably already missed it, lol! Either way, I will try to read books to complete the requirements of the challenge 🙂
I really want to get a copy of A Thousand Beginnings and Endings – will be interested to know what you think of it!
I haven’t started it yet (whoops), but I will be as soon as I finish The Gilded Wolves this weekend 😀
Definitely going to have a snoop at that masterlist for more asian recs! I’m intrigued about The Gilded Wolves. Hope the readathon goes well!
It’s SUCH a good list! I would have been lost without it, and I’ve bookmarked it for future TBRs!
I’m hoping to take part in the Asian Readathon this month. As an Asian I’m embarrassed to admit that I don’t have a whole lot of Asian authors on my shelves. So I’m really making an effort to diversify my shelves from this month onwards 😅
Ah that’s exciting! What do you think you might read? 😀
I’m thinking of finally tackling The Gilded Wolves, The Bride Test, The People in the Trees by Hanya Yanagihara, and… maybe Warcross by Marie Lu. This seems pretty ambitious with everything else I hope to read, but I love a challenge 😀 haha
Oooh great choices! I’m currently reading The Gilded Wolves, and with only 80 pages to go things are tense!
Good luck with your TBR! I’m participating in the Readathon as well and have read some Manga for the very first time, it has been very good so far 🙂 I also really want to get to The Gilded Wolves 😍
Thanks so much Caro! Oooh which manga books are you hoping to read? I’m currently reading Bleach vol 45 and I’ve only got 80 pages left of The Gilded Wolves! It’s so tense :O
I just finished reading Orange! I also might want to check out A Silent Voice sometime 🙂 Ohh I hope you like it!! 🙂
