A book a certain friend is always telling you to read
A few of my pals who have already read The Priory of the Orange Tree have been telling me I need to read it for weeks (Imi, Katherine, I’m looking at you). Now that I’m finally reading it, I can see what all the fuss is about. It’s nothing short of fantastic. The narrative style, world-building, and characters are all incredible.
A book that’s been on your TBR forever and yet you still haven’t picked it up
Whenever I’m asked this question my thoughts immediately go to An Ember in the Ashes. I’ve had a copy of this book on my shelf for years and I somehow haven’t managed to read it, despite really wanting to. But I want to make 2019 the year I finally get to this series.
A book in a series you’ve started, but haven’t gotten round to finishing yet
I started the Snow Like Ashes trilogy years ago and I’ve read the first book, but not Ice Like Fire (despite owning it) or Frost Like Night. I really enjoyed the SLA, but I don’t remember all the finer details, so I’m wondering whether I should re-read it before continuing the rest of the series. This would definitely be one to read later in the year when it’s wintry (in keeping with the series) and I have fewer ARCs to contend with.
A classic you’ve always liked the sound of, but never actually read
For me, this is Emma by Jane Austen. The synopsis has always appealed to me, and I think I’d enjoy the melodrama, but I’ve still not managed to pick it up. We didn’t study it in university either, so I didn’t have the chance to read it then.
A popular book that it seems everyone but you has read
I’ve been wanting to read Uprooted for a while, especially after Spinning Silver was released and everyone was excited about it. Like most book bloggers, I dream of owning the UK hardback copy to match the Spinning Silver HB, but they’re so rare that I know it’ll never happen.
A book that inspired a film/TV adaptation that you really love, but you just haven’t read it yet
I’m going to go with manga for this one, because I watch a lot of anime (and love it), but I don’t always read the manga first like I used to. With a lot of the recent YA adaptations, on the other hand, I’ve already read the book. The manga I’m picking is the Seven Deadly Sins (Nanatsu no Taizai), because I loved this anime when it first released and need to watch season 2 ASAP, but I still haven’t read any of the manga volumes yet. I definitely want pick them up, though, because with other series, I’ve found that the manga goes into a lot more detail than the anime and the plot has more depth.
A book you see all over Instagram but haven’t picked up yet
This book has been on my Instagram feed a lot in the last few weeks and it’s piqued my curiosity. It’s about a hunter who’s tasked with tracking down a missing boy and ends up joining a rag-tag group to find him. Sadly, I don’t have time to read it at the moment, but perhaps later this year I’ll pick it up.

I loved An Ember in the Ashes! It took me a little bit to get into, but it ended up being soooo good! I think the series has gotten better with each book as well. I hope you enjoy it when you pick it up!

I’m exactly the same with Snow Like Ashes. I read it a few years ago and really liked it but never picked up the other two books in the series. However, now it has been a while, I don’t know if I’m that bothered to finish the series because there are so many other series I need and want to finish reading. I also really want to read Black Leopard Red Wolf. From the little I saw of it in The Guardian/Observer review, it looks intriguing and different to other fantasies coming out at the moment.
I’m intrigued about Black Leopard red wolf too, I have it on request from the library

I’ve done quite a lot of dehauling lately so I’d struggle with these questions, but there’s definitely still a few books I kept that I neeed to get round to! I’ve seen Black Leopard everywhere but it doesn’t seem like my kind of book. BUT EVERYONE IS OBSESSED WITH IT, so I’m torn?
Black Leopard Red Wolf definitely feels like one of those books that has suddenly appeared out of nowhere and is now everywhere. I just know I’m intrigued enough to cave in and buy it soon! I’m so excited to start Priory soon, I just know I’m gonna love it.
These are some of the books I haven’t read either 😀 And there are lots of other books. I am definitely going to have a lot of trouble selecting just one answer for each question 😀

uprooted was def one of my faves last year.. but also it coudlve been gay so i always feel sad when thinking about it tooahah
Aww man, that’s a shame! I often find myself reading straight romances and thinking they’d work better as queer romances 🙂 Sometimes other characters just have better chemistry!
I, like you, also haven’t read Uprooted yet. I’ve been meaning to read it but just haven’t yet. I’m aiming to read it this year though!
Ah, maybe we should do a buddy read later in the year when we both get it? 😉

Because of the fact you mentioned the one novel I was hoping to read myself but thought for sure I’d have to make a purchase REQ for – I hopped over to see if my library might have sorted it out before I could request it and sure enough, much to my delight (and shock!) they purchased The Priory of the Orange Tree!!!! Snagging 1st Reader in the queue was more shocking as I thought for sure that would have been taken already!! Eek. This is one book getting a lot of attention I thought might work out well for me as a reader; time will see.
Snow Like Ashes is the one that got away from me – I had to wait six mos to ILL it; then forgot about it; a year later I was going to ILL it but the timing was wrong for me; the whole series published before I realised – grr! I never had the chance to begin it! lol Maybe this is my year to finally start it!? lol
I was going to read Emma *before!* the new PBS adaptation; the mini-series released, I hadn’t even broached it; saw the first 2 to 3 epis of the series; realised I’d rather read it first; ended up quitting the mini-series, bought the dvd and guess who still NEEDS to read Emma? Mind, I have several copies of it; all packed off and I lost sight of where I put the dvd; lol — one of these years, surely!
I discovered Spinning Silver (I believe its the same book) during #Mythothon – I need to re-queue those reads and start sharing my #Mythothon reads — its going to be a year quest or 10mos whichever… glad to know there is another behind this one!! 🙂
