Top Ten Tuesday: Hyped books I didn’t get to in 2018

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. This week’s theme is:

January 22: Books I Meant to Read In 2018 but Didn’t Get To

Oh man. There are so many books I wanted to pick up last year, but I just didn’t have time for. (If only I could read faster!) Buckle up guys, I’m about to hit you with (arguably) some of the most hyped books of 2018 that I just didn’t manage to read.

I was (and still am) SO excited for these books and I just didn’t manage to read them??? Lady’s Guide and Mirage were two of my most anticipated releases of 2018 and I didn’t make the time to pick them up. I was even lucky enough to get an ARC of Tempests and Slaughter and YALC and *whispers* I still didn’t read it. I’m the worst.

Girls of Paper and Fire was also one of my most anticipated releases of 2018, and yet here I am, going into 2019, with it unread. I asked for The Queens of Innis Lear for my birthday last year, so I’ve had a whole six months to read it, but apparently not. Same for Spinning Silver; I received a copy in May and I had all the best intentions of reading it, but it somehow slipped through the net.

I’m really sad I didn’t get to these three because they all sound right up my street. This is especially true for From Twinkle With Love, because I read When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon in 2017 and absolutely loved it, so I knew I was going to love Twinkle too. I just didn’t end up picking it up.

Which books did you miss in 2018? Are there any on this list that I should prioritise?

Until next time,KateNEW

  1. Great list! Circe, Girls of Paper and Fire, Spinning Silver and The Queens of Innis Lear all made my list this year too, so you’re not alone! The City of Brass is another one I’d like to get to soon, and I recommend The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy. 🙂 I loved its focus on friendship so much. Happy reading!

    1. Ah, we missed out on quite a few of the same books then! The Lady’s Guide is at the top of my list of books to get to ASAP, but I need to read quite a few other ARCs that are releasing soon, so I’m not sure I’ll get to it this month or next month 😭

      1. February is LGBT+ History Month here in the UK, so February is a great month to read a book with an ace/aro protagonist. 😉

  2. I’m currently reading The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy! I finally got it last weekend and I’m so happy to have picked it up. Gentleman’s Guide was such a fantastic read for me and I reread it last year in preparation for Lady’s Guide (but never bought it – oops!)

    1. I *loved* The Gentleman’s Guide too, which is part of the reason I’m so annoyed with myself for not reading The Lady’s Guide yet! I’ve got quite a few soon-to-be-released ARCs to get to, but as soon as I finish those, I’ll be picking it up!

  3. You have some incredible books on this list Kate, I hope you managed to get around to them all soon. 🙂 Circe, The Lady’s Guide, Darius the Great is Not Okay and Spinning Silver were some of my favourite reads of last year, and The City of Brass is a new all-time favourite series of mine (I’m so excited for the release of book two) so I’ll be interested to hear what you think about them.
Great post, and I hope you enjoy all these books once you get around to them. 🙂 ❤️

  4. I also meant to read Circe, as I really enjoyed Song of Achilles, but just never got to it. Spinning Silver was great though, I’d definitely recommend that.

  5. I also still need to read From Twinkle, With Love- I’d originally planned to buy the hardback, but as time went on and on without my buying it I ended up deciding to just wait for the paperback as I really wouldn’t have to wait that much longer. So I definitely plan to buy that soon, and hopefully get to it soonish as well. I shall need to get round to buying Sweetie sooner so I don’t get caught in the same vicious circle 😂
I want to read the Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy too, but who knows when I’ll manage that given I haven’t read the first book, and didn’t even OWN it till a few weeks ago 🙈

  6. Circe and Spinning Silver are two books I had hoped to read in 2018 but failed to do so. Now, I’m making them a priority for this year. The biggest shocker was that I didn’t get round to reading Vengeful by the end of the year!

      1. I really did! I really liked getting to grips with the world it was set in, and the f/f romance made my heart sing (and I’m not a romance person!)
