Blogmas Day 9 // The Bookish Naughty or Nice tag

This tag is a take on the ‘naughty or nice’ list you get put on by Santa and it sounds absolutely brilliant. Thanks so much to Jenn @APageofJenniely for tagging me, this was so much fun to do!

Rules

  • Tag & link the person who tagged you
  • Tag and link me/this post (if you would be so kind, I love reading your answers!)
  • Tick/cross off the ones you’ve done
  • Tag another 10 people!

1. Received an ARC and not reviewed it

Oh yes. Ive definitely done this, as much as I’m not proud of it. If a lot of ARCs arrive in the mail for me in the same week it’s difficult to get to them all before they’re released. I always try my best to get to as many as possible, but sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day.

2. Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley

I’m towing the line dangerously at 63%. I’ve got five books on my shelf to get to at the moment so hopefully once I’ve reviewed those my rating will go up slightly!

3. Rated a book on Goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did)

I used to fall into this trap all the time, but I’ve become better at not doing it this year. I try to write a brief review on Goodreads, summarising my thoughts, then if/when I post a longer review later on my blog, I’ll go back and update my Goodreads with the longer review. But although I don’t do this often anymore, I have to confess, I did it with Empire of Sand a couple of weeks ago…

4. Folded down the page of a book

I never do this because I usually always have some form of bookmark handy. By some form I mean a train ticket, hair bobble, elastic band, or an actual bookmark. I just can’t bring myself to fold pages for some reason, especially not with library books or books that aren’t mine.

5. Accidentally spilled on a book

YES AND IT WAS HORRIBLE. It was the night I’d been to Laini Taylor’s Muse of Nightmares event in Birmingham woth friends, and my boyfriend drove me home after. While we were in the car I realised my water bottle had been leaking ONTO THE COVER OF STRANGE THE DREAMER. I panicked and then tried to dry everything off as best I could. When I got home, I left the dustjacket and book to air near a radiator. Thankfully when I checked them the next day, they were both fine. The dustjacket has a bit of a mark on the inside, but you can’t see it at all when it’s on the book (i.e all the time), thank goodness.

6. DNF a book this year

No, I don’t actually DNF books, so I haven’t done this at all this year!

7. Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it

I sorrrrt of did this over the summer because I bought Wicked Like a Wildfire on offer at YALC. It was beautiful, it w as only £3, knowing I’m sure I’ll read it eventually 😉

8. Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework)

I’ve definitely done this quite a few times recently when I’m meant to be ironing clothes or blogging. Reading is far more fun though.

9. Skim read a book

I haven’t done this in 2018 but I definitely did this last year when reading Zenith. It was so poorly written and dull that I skimmed a lot of the secondary character’s POV chapters.

10. Completely missed your Goodreads goal

Not this time, because as of last week, I’m on track!

11. Borrowed a book and not returned it to the library

I haven’t checked out a book and forgotten to return it in 2018, but I’ve done this in the past. I’ve never forgotten about a book for more than two weeks, but my sister once forgot she had one out for a month!

12. Broke a book buying ban

Haha yes, I did break a ban earlier this year. Not during my book buying month in August, but earlier in the year when I put myself on a mini-ban for a few weeks before my birthday. I still ended up buying a cheeky book in Waterstones.

13. Started a review, left it for ages then forgot what the book was about

I’m guilty of doing this occasionally on my blog; I’ll start a book review soon after I’ve finished the novel and then leave it for a few weeks, and when I come back to it I’ve forgotten a lot of the plot points. I need to start making more notes for myself!

14. Wrote in a book you were reading

*shocked face* I would NEVER. Except when I was at uni; occasionally I’d annotate books in pencil for literature, but never my own fiction books.

15. Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads

I always add every book I read to my Goodread profile because I want them to count towards my reading challenge.

16. Borrowed a book and not returned it to a friend

I’m still in the middle of doing this, because my friend from work gave me her copy of How to Stop Time about four months ago and I still haven’t read it or returned it. Whoops.

17. Dodged someone asking if they can borrow a book

Haha yes, I’m terrible and I’ve done this in the last few months. One of my friends implied that she’d like to borrow Vicious and I casually led the conversation on to talking about how cheap it was on Amazon. Hint hint. Repping V and hoarding my books to myself. 😛

18. Broke the spine of someone else’s book

Oh I would feel terrible if I did this to anyone else’s book, so I always make sure to read them carefully and not bend the cover around (I never do this anyway).

19. Took the jacket off a book to protect it and ended up making it more damaged

I did this a little bit with my copy of Muse, because the dustjacket was getting slightly wrinkled in the corners, so I took it off and took it off to try and preserve it, and the book itself started to get scuffed at the corners (from being in my bag)! You just can’t win.

20. Sat on a book accidentally

I DO THIS ALL THE TIME. I DON’T KNOW HOW, I JUST ALWAYS DO. ON MY BED, ON THE SOFA. EVERYWHERE. Someone help me.

Final Score: 11/20

So I’ve been a little naughty this year, but hopefully Santa will still bring me a few gifts!

  1. Thank you so much for tagging me! 😊 I’m usually pretty good with not spilling anything on my books, but I lately did spill some tea on a hardcover book – gladly it was without the jacket and dried after I put it on the heating unit for a bit 😮
