December 4: Cozy/Wintry Reads
I really like finding books that have that cosy feel. They may not be festive, but there’s something about them that’s inherently comforting and perfect for winter. Here are ten of my cosiest reads, ideal for a snowy day.
There’s something about these three books that I find incredibly cosy. I think it’s the adventures into fiction in Pages and Co, the friendships in IWBFT, and the innocent days where Liesel and Rudy can just play together in The Book Thief.
Strange Weather in Toyko is an inherently solemn book, but there’s also something cosy about the slice-of-life narrative. It also shows the passage of the seasons, so we get to spend some time in a wintry Japan with our characters. By contrast, Upside and When Dimple Met Rishi are very ‘summery’ books, but I still find their subject matter cosy and comforting. I think this is down the the way they explore human interactions and family love.
History is All You Left Me and Snow Like Ashes are more wintry than cosy, but both give you a sense of comfort from being read somewhere warm and toasty. Two Boys Kissing and Fangirl, on the other hand, aren’t especially wintry, but offer cosy feelings from their characters’ burgeoning relationships.

Ah, I’ve heard good things about Dash and Lily, and I think I talked about it last Blogmas as one of my ‘seasonal books to watch out for’. I realise that not many of these books are actually ‘Christmas-themed/festive’, but I don’t actually tend to read many of those around this time of year! I prefer wintry books that aren’t specifically Christmas-y, so that’s why most of these recs are those types of books! 🙂
I Was Born for This is on my TBR, but it hasn’t been published in my country yet! So I’m settling for Radio Silence for now 😊

Great list! I loved The Upside of Unrequited so much and The Book Thief is a wonderful winter read. I’ve been seeing Pages & Co. everywhere this year and I really need to read it myself – it’s giving me Inkheart vibes, and I loved Inkheart when I was younger. 🙂
I think When Dimple Met Rishi is the perfect comfort book. It would definitely be high on my list of books to reach for when I want to be happy. History Is All You Left Me would be a great counter balance to it too. Hmm, maybe I’d read History first and cry and then comfort myself with Dimple. Great list!

When it comes to wintry books, I always think about the more atmospheric books. Now, despite the pain that comes with the series The Winner’s Trilogy are the books that come in mind for those wintry nights, but your mention of the innocent days of Liesel and Rudy has me wanting to re-read The Book Theif.

I happen to be in a Cosy state of mind during #cloakanddaggerchristmas – I have more reviews to share of the stories I’ve been reading as I fell behind this week when I kept getting derailed by being ill. I hate poor air quality and enviro pollution – as they wreck it for you if your already trying to get over a serious Winter virus! 😦 I did manage to post a few already…

I’ve been wanting to read ‘Snow Like Ashes’ since it published. Originally the libraries weren’t purchasing it and then I waiting for the six months past pub to ILL it and then finally of course, I forgot about it completely (ie. LIFE) so now, I realise it is still on my TBR! I should #BeatTheBacklist with it this New Year! Thanks for the reminder!!! lol
Never heard of Strange Weather in Toyko; I was starting to listen to the audiobook for When Dimple Met Rishi but never had the joy of finishing it; speaking of which your first three recs are ones I felt might be good fits for me! Thanks for highlighting these stories!!
