The Panic! At The Disco Book Tag

I first saw Jess @ReadByJess do this tag, and I’m a big Panic! At The Disco fan so I immediately wanted to do it too. I discovered Panic when I was about 13 and listened to their A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out album on repeat for months. Since then I’ve listened to all of their subsequent albums, and still enjoy their music now, so this tag sounded like a lot of fun to me.

Death of a Bachelor – A romance novel

This is one of my favourite YA romance stories because the slow build of Dimple and Rishi’s feelings for one another is believable and adorable at the same time. From their first meeting (with the infamous Starbucks coffee) to the end of the novel, there’s never a dull moment between the two, and I loved the scene when they go to a book-themed restaurant. Sounds like my kind of place.

High Hopes – A book you have high expectations for 

The Girl King is about two sisters who find themselves in a battle for position of Emperor. I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this at YALC, and I’m excited to dive into it before its release in January.

Miss Jackson – A book with betrayal

This is a gay romantic novel set at an American college (university) and I really got sucked into. It’s dramatic and cute, but there is a heckin’ big betrayal between the two MCs at one point in the story. I can’t confirm of deny whether this affects their relationship, though. To find that out you’ll have to read it for yourself.

Girls/Girls/Boys – An LGBTQIAP+ book

This is another ARC I picked up from YALC, and it’s a fantasy story with an f/f relationship. I was a little disappointed by Of Fire and Stars – another f/f fantasy I read earlier this year – so I’m hoping this will absolutely blow me away. All the reviews I’ve seen so far have been very positive, so that’s bolstering my hopes.

I Write Sins Not Tragedies – A book with a wedding

The Upside of Unrequited features a gay wedding and I remember absolutely loving the way the ceremony was narrated. The heart-warming descriptions made me wish I could be there with them to celebrate.

Don’t Threaten Me With a Good Time – A book featuring a partying protagonist or a party scene

There’s definitely at least one scene in Simon VS the Homo Sapiens Agenda where our favourite Creekwood pals are at a party and get a little drunk. The one I’m thinking of in particular is when Simon and Leah have a heart to heart in fancy dress, surrounded by other very drunk teenagers. It was a really sweet scene and one that’s stayed with me.

Say Amen (Saturday Night) – A book with an unapologetic main character

When I read The Cruel Prince, I found Jude fairly unapologetic in her schemes. She feels guilty for some of her actions, but for the most part she carries them out with determination and little remorse.

This is Gospel – A book from a trilogy

This is the first book in a trilogy I’ve still not read, but it’s been on my TBR for years. My issue with this trilogy is that I like the US covers much more than the UK ones, but we can’t get them very easily over here, so I’d need to order them. And every time I come to do it, I think of other books I want to read more. Have you read this trilogy; would you say it’s worth picking up?

Emperor’s New Clothes – A hardback that looks beautiful naked

I’ve always thought the original hardcovers of The Wrath and the Dawn and The Rose and The Dagger were really beautiful. The colours compliment each other well, and the cut out parts are a clever design addition. I really like the new UK paperback designs, but the original US hardcovers have the edge for me.

Victorious – An empowering book 

Moxie is about a high schooler who decides to make a feminist stand against the inherent sexism present in many areas of her school life. I read this last year and felt so uplifted and empowered by the solidary of the girls in the novel. There was so much love, and hope, and triumph and I’d definitely recommend it.

Impossible Year – A really sad book

Unpopular opinion, but The Fault in Our Stars remains one of the saddest books I’ve ever read. Although I’ve never been a John Green stan (I didn’t love Looking For Alaska or Paper Town and I haven’t read Turtles All The Way Down) I found the ending of this book really emotional and cried my way through the final few chapters.

King of the Clouds – An award winning book

Alice Walker won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award for The Color Purple, and when you read the book it’s easy to see why. It’s a moving, harrowing, and powerful tale about one woman’s survival and self-discovery. It comes with strong TWs for rape and domestic abuse, and CWs for on-page death, racism, sexism, but it’s an eye-opening book with eventual queer themes.

Hey Look Ma, I Made It  – A debut author

I’m so excited for Hafsah Faizal’s debut novel, which comes out in May 2019. Set in ancient Arabia, This book is about a hunter, Zafira, and a prince, Nasir, both legends in their own right, but neither really wants to be who they are. When both Zafira and Nasir go on separate quests for the same lost artifact that has the potential to restore magic to the land, they discover that said artifact could be a greater threat than either imagined. This is one of my most anticipated releases for next year, so I’m looking forward to May.
