Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. This week’s theme is:
October 2: Authors I’d Love to Meet
There are a few authors I adore (Victoria Scwab, Laini Taylor, Alwyn Hamilton, Akemi Dawn Bowman), that I couldn’t include in this list because I’ve already met them (YAY). For that reason, a few of my favourites aren’t in this list, but there are plenty of other favourites that I haven’t had the chance to meet yet.
Juno Dawson is an author whose books I’ve been wanting to read for a while, but just haven’t managed to get to yet. When I saw her speak at YALC, I was reminded of how much I want to read Clean and The Gender Games. Graceling is one of my favourite books (of all time) so I’d love to meet Kristen Cashore, and similarly, I adore Leigh Bardugo’s writing and I’ve read all of her books, but I haven’t had the chance to meet her yet. But if she goes on tour for King of Scars in 2019… I’ll be there.
I’d also love to meet Mackenzie Lee, as I adored The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue and I can’t wait for The Lady’s Guide. Plus, Mackenzie seems to know so much about unknown women from history, so I’d enjoy picking her brains on that. Tomi Adeyemi is another author who’s debut I adored, and I almost got to meet her at YALC, but her queue was too long and got cut off before I could reach the front. Sadly I didn’t get the chance to tell her how much I enjoyed COBAB, but, hopefully she’ll be on tour again for Children of Virtue and Vengeance, and I can meet her then. I haven’t read Natasha Ngan’s debut, Girls of Paper and Fire yet, but I have an ARC of it, and it sounds fantastic so I think I’m going to have a great time reading it. She also seems lovely on Twitter, so I think she’s be great to chat to in person.
I was enthralled by Angie Thomas’s The Hate U Give, and I’d love to hear her speak at an event. Likewise, I really enjoyed Sandhya Menon’s When Dimple Met Rishi and can’t wait to read her newer book From Twinkle With Love, so I think I’d ended up gushing a lot if I ever met her. The final two authors on this list, Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera, I’m actually meeting later this month. I’m heading to their event in Manchester for the release of What If It’s Us, and I can’t wait!
Which authors have you met before? Who would you love to meet?
I love this post. Was it hard to narrow down? I think I’ll do this as well today😊
Aww thank you! Yes, it was a little hard to narrow down because once I started to think about the authors I’d like to meet, the list get growing and growing! But these were my top picks 🙂 Ooh, if you decided to do it please drop me a link!
I got too busy and missed it but maybe I’ll do a random post about it!
Yes! It would definitely still make a good feature post! 🙂
Juno is AMAZING and so funny, she makes me laugh so much.

I’ve only seen her in panels but she seems fantastic! She’s so witty 🙂 Hopefully I’ll get to meet her in person at a signing soon!
Ah great choices! ❤ I would love to meet Victoria Schwab, Leigh Bardugo, Akemi Dawn Bowman, Alice Oseman and Adam Silvera! I've actually met Becky Albertalli last month and she is the sweetest. I've also met Tomi Adeyemi and Laura Steven and they are both so kind and funny!
Aww thanks! You have some great choices too, I hope you get to meet them all in the near future! Oh wow, you’re so lucky to have met Tomi, I bet she was amazing? Becky seems so sweet too, and I can’t wait to meet her at the end of this month 🙂
Oh these are brilliant picks for this week Kate. There were some of my favourite authors I couldn’t include because I’d already met them too, which on one hand yay but on the other I still want to meet them again!
Leigh Bardugo would be high on my list. I missed her the last time she was in London so if she comes back for King of Scars I will definitely be there! 🙂
Great post, and again great picks for this weeks topic. 🙂 ❤️
Thanks Beth! Yes, that was exactly my issue! The first person I thought to include was V, but then I realised that I’ve already met her several times so I couldn’t! I think, no matter how many times I meet my faves, I’ll still want to meet them more. Hopefully we’ll both get to see Leigh if she’s here next year on tour! 😀
I’m keeping my fingers tightly crossed she is. King of Scars is so hyped she’ll have to do a tour for it right?! 🙂
I hope you have the best time at the Manchester event. I’d love to make the trip there, but unfortunately, time and work just aren’t in my favour.
I’d love to meet Leigh Bardugo. Any chance I’d get to pick at her genius brain I will take it.
Aww thanks Lois! I wish you could have come, as I’d love to meet you in person, but hopefully next time! Yes, Leigh would be amazing to hear on a panel and even better (I imagine) to meet in person! I’d love to ask her how she came up with Kaz’s character 🙂
I met Juno at YALC she was amazing. I’ve met Angie twice and she is just incredible!! ❤
Ohhh that’s brilliant! Is she as funny in a one-to-one conversation as she is during panels? I love how witty she is during talks. You’re so lucky to have met Angie twice! What was she like? I’m hoping she goes on tour in the UK for her next book, as I’ll definitely try and get tickets to see her if she does 🙂
She is just amazing hahhaha that’s the only way to describe Juno. Angie is LOVELY and so headstrong and amazing. ❤
I was lucky enough to meet Angie Thomas when she came to Manchester last year and she’s hilarious. I hope she comes again for her next book!
Oh that’s amazing! She seems so friendly from interviews I’ve seen, so I’m glad you enjoyed the event! I really hope she comes for her next book so I can try to meet her then 😀
Such great picks! I’d love to hear Schwab, Bardugo, and Thomas. It would be amazing to hear about their writing process.
Thanks Alicia! Victoria is amazing to talk to, and I’ve felt so lucky and happy to meet her each time. I’ve seen her at quite a few panels too and she’s so inspiring. I hope you get to meet her soon, and I hope we can both meet Leigh Bardugo and Angie Thomas too! 😀
Angie Thomas and Tomi Adeyemi made it onto my list too!
Yay, they would be so great to meet! I saw Tomi speak on a panel at YALC and she was so funny and charismatic! 🙂 Hopefully we’ll both get the chance to meet them both!
Hopefully! 😄
This is such a great list! I would LOVE to meet Angie Thomas, Tomi Ayedemi, Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera just as well, they all seem so sweet and amazing ❤
Nice list! I actually V.E. Schwab this past week during her Vengeful tour, and she was nothing short of brilliant. 🙂
As for the authors on your list, I’ve met Kristin Cashore and Leigh Bardugo and enjoyed them both. They’re both incredibly intelligent, and Kristin is more whimsical and thoughtful while Leigh is infectiously enthusiastic. I hope you get to meet them someday!
As for me… oh goodness, I’ve been lucky enough to meet a LOT of authors. Nova Ren Suma, George R.R. Martin, Daniel Jose Older, Julie C. Dao, N.K. Jemisin,.. there might be a few others, but they’re not coming to me at the moment. *lol*
Thank you! Aww wow, you’re so lucky! I bet she was amazing? I’m happy to hear that Kristin and Leigh were both great, I bet I’ll love meeting them if/when I eventually do. I’d like to meet Julie C. Dao and N.K Jemisin, as they have such strong presences on social media, and they’re both so imaginative. 🙂
She was, yes! She had also found out earlier that day that Vengeful was going to debut on the NYT bestsellers list, so she was also a little bit emotional. But she held it together really well.
Omg Kate I didn’t know you were going to Manchester too! Hopefully see you there
