We’re just over a week into the Tome Topple readathon, and I thought I’d post a brief update of how my reading is going. Despite my best intentions to read at least two tomes between working, commuting, and going to visit my boyfriend for the weekend, I haven’t read very much. I’m behind, guys. Very behind. It turns out that working full-time is not compatible with trying to read multiple 500+ books. Who knew?
But regardless of the little reading I’ve done, I’m powering on. I finished my first tome this morning (finally) and will be starting my second as soon as I can after work.
The first tome I’ve managed to read was Strange the Dreamer, which I’m pleased about since this book as been on my TBR for a year or more. Strange clocks in at 532 pages, and now that I’ve finished it I’m planning to either finish Children of Blood and Bone, which is 525 pages (I’m already at page 250 ish), or read The Poppy War and see how much of its 544 pages I can get through.
So, I’m hoping to finish the Tome Topple readathon on roughly 800-1000 pages, which wouldn’t be a bad effort considering I’ve not had much free time.
What I’ve found more difficult than expected is taking part in reading sprints. Normally, I love sprints, but most seem to happen when I’m at work or asleep (due to the UK/US time differences). Hopefully I’ll at least manage to get involved in a few before the readathon is over.
What are you reading at the moment? Are you planning any summer readathons?
i really want to read Children of Blood and Bone as well as the Poppy War. I hope you enjoy them, good luck with the rest of the readathon!
I just started The Poppy War today and I’m hooked already. The narrative style is excellent and the main character is intriguing. I’m about half way through Children of Blood and Bone and I was really enjoy it but for some reason I put it down for a bit. I need to get back to it again soon before YALC!
I’m so glad you’re enjoying it! I need to read both of them soon. And oh my gosh, I hope you have an amazing time at YALC!
Would definitely recommend it so far, although I’ve heard people say it gets pretty harrowing later on. Aww thanks, I’m looking forward to it so much! 🙂
oooh good luck for the rest of the readathon (I’ve no idea when it ends lmao). I’d have loved to take part but I just KNOW it wouldn’t have gone well at all with me working everyday and busy on weekends. I keep trying to find readathons I can take part in but none so far!
I participated in the Readathon as well and was really busy as well, so I didn’t read as much as I usually would. But I’m still happy that I managed to read 2 tomes 🙂 I hope you managed to reach your goals as well! I also really get you about the sprints, a lot of the time they were happening when I was busy with other things 😮
