Soul Ripping Romance Tag

This tag is exactly as the name suggests; it’s all about romances that are so cute and wonderful that they rip your soul out. Yay. Thanks to Emma @ADreamersLibrary for tagging me, this was a lot of fun to do, despite how intense the title makes it sound. Definitely check out Emma’s version of the tag too!

Disclaimer: there will be minor spoilers in this post. If you haven’t read ADSOM, Simon Vs, or Daughter of Smoke and Bone, and haven’t watched Legend of Korra or Scarlet Heart Ryeo, but are planning to, then proceed at your peril.

The Guide:

  • Thank the person who tagged you and create a pingback to the original author – Nel at Reactionary Tales.
  • Share at least 5 (but more are welcome) romances that tugged your heart strings. They can be from books, movies, TV shows, manga; anything you can think of! They can be examples of sad tears, angry tears, happy tears or a combination of all three.
  • Nominate 5 (or more) people to share their emotional traumas
  • (Note: Try not to spoil the story for your readers in case they would like to check out these romances on their own)

1. Simon and Blue

In case you haven’t seen Love, Simon or read the book, I’m not going to spoil who Blue is for you, but this romance hit me right in the feelings. The way their email exchanges became more caring and heart-felt, before they finally met in person was so sweet to read. I loved their ability to confide in one another and I think this is going to be one of my all-time favourite ships. Also the ferris wheel scene was everything, and I’ll never forget how happy it made me feel. (Blue is not shown in the image below because spoilers!)

Love Simon

2. Korra and Asami

I’ve loved Avatar: Last Airbender when it was airing, so when Legend of Korra was announced I was curious to see if it would match up. And it did. It really did. In fact, I binged the entire first season of Korra because it was fast-paced, dramatic, and (for me) even better than Avatar. Just as I was wondering how the show could possibly get better, the creators announced that Korra and Asami’s (two of the main female protagonists) relationship would become canon. I screamed.

3. Rhy and Alucard

When I read the ADSOM trilogy, this became one of my all time favourite romances. Rhy and Alucard’s relationship is founded on tender love and an intense desire to protect one another. I adored reading the way their feelings progressed throughout the trilogy and, quite honestly, I would die for their happiness.

4. Karou and Akiva

These two have such a long and complex relationship and I ended up feeling so much empathy for both of them. Their ups and downs made my heart leap and fall. They’ve been through so much together that I just wanted them to find happiness by the end of the trilogy, and while I’m not going to spoil what happens, I will say that I was 100% satisfied with the ending.

5. Wang So and Hae Soo

When I first watched Scarlet Heart Ryeo, I wasn’t a huge fan of Wang So’s character. I liked his enigmatic nature, but he was cruel and cold. I also wasn’t a big fan of the way he interacted with Hae Soo, but I think this actually more symptomatic of gender roles in k-drama on the whole, and is something the genre needs to address. But, as the series progressed, he began to change, becoming friendlier, kinder, and more accepting of himself. As he changed, he and Hae Soo began to spend more time together and developed feelings for each other. And the way he started to look at her just got me right in the heart. I haven’t finished this series yet, but I love how their relationship is becoming so compassionate and loving and I hope they end up together.

    1. I JUST KNEW YOU’D PICK THEM. So I had to tag you to prove myself right 😛 Thought you’d enjoy doing it though since when you start to ship a romance, you tend to get really into it. Can’t wait to see who else you choose! ❤

  1. Thank you so much for tagging me, this Tag sounds like a lot of fun! 💕 I sadly haven’t watched The Legend of Korra yet, plus I have only read ADSOM, so I have not meet Alucard yet, even though I really want to!

      1. Definitely… I thought it was cute in the book .. then I saw the movie and it was even more amazing 😍😍😍

          1. I totally agree… I saw it twice and I’m waiting for it come on iTunes next 😊😊😊

    1. Thanks Marie! It was a lot of fun to write, and I actually had a hard time narrowing it down because (despite not always being bothered about romance in literature) there are actually quite a lot of couples or potential couples I like! Rhy and Alucard are so good together, and I was rooting for Simon and Blue the whole time I was reading the book (and watching the film)! ❤

      1. Ah Ok well I definitely recommend finishing it… 😄 do you watch a lot of Kdramas?
