The Friday 56: To Kill A Kingdom

The Friday 56 is a weekly blog meme hosted by Freda’s Voice. The idea is to share an excerpt from a book you’ve been reading every Friday, to promote the book or simply just to showcase your current read!

Friday56

Rules:
*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader
(If you have to improvise, that’s OK.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don’t spoil it)
*Post it.
*Add your (url) post below in Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url.
*It’s that simple

This week I’m reading To Kill A Kingdom and boy is it good.

To kill a kingdom

I shrug, unwilling to give my father any more reason to keep me in Midas. If I told him that I wanted to hunt for a mythical crystal in mountains that could steal my breath in seconds, there’s no way he’d let me leave. He’d find a way to keep his heir in Midas.
“It’s nothing,” I lie. “Don’t worry.”
My father considers this, his maroon lips forming a tight line. “It’s a king’s job to worry when his heir is so reckless.”
I roll my eyes. “Good thing you have two, then.”

I started this a few days ago because I’d accidentally left my copy of Children of Blood and Bone at home, and it’s much more enthralling than I was expecting. The plot is tight and fast-paced, the characters are intriguing, and the narrative is well written. No complaints so far from me.

What are you reading this week? Have you read any good fantasy novels recently?

Until next time

    1. Yay book twins! I think I’m just over half way now, so we must be at a very similar point. I’m really enjoying the relationships between the crew and the twists and turns of the plot. Also Elian and Lira’s antagonistic relationship is so funny to read. Who’s your favourite character at the moment? I’m exactly the same – I don’t want to put it down!

  1. That one sentence sounds good, I am very curious about this book. I’ve just finished Children of Blood and Bone and I LOVED IT so much ❤ I am now reading Blue Lily, Lily Blue, the third book in the Raven Cycle!

    1. Omg I’m excited to hear that you loved Children of Blood and Bone, I’m hoping to start that this weekend. What rating did you give it? To Kill A Kingdom is really good so far, just the right combination of unique+interesting characters and dynamic plot. 🙂

      1. Ah, hopefully you’ll start it soon, I gave it 5 out of 5 stars! It was quite an intense read, but I enjoyed every minute of it and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series ❤ Hopefully I will be able to read To Kill A Kingdom soon, it sounds good!
