As we’re now in the home straight of 2017, I decided it’d be fitting to do the End of the Year Book Tag and start rounding up the books I’ve read in the last twelve months. I recently saw this on Jenniely’s blog and her answers were so fun that it inspired me to have a go myself. This tag was originally created by the wonderful Ariel Bissett over on her Youtube channel and you should definitely check out her video.
1. Are there any books you started this year you need to finish?
Oh yes. You bet there are. I’m currently reading The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue and They Both Die at the End and need to finish both before the year is over.
2. Do you have an autumnal book to transition to the end of the year?
I’m hoping to get to An Enchantment of Ravens this month, and something about this cover reminds me of autumn, even though I have an inkling the book is set in summer. (Can anyone confirm this if you’ve read it?)
3. Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?
There’s actually not! All the new releases I’ve been anticipating are now out in the world, and many of them I’ve yet to pick up, so I’ll be focusing on those for the next few weeks before looking ahead to early 2018 releases.
4. What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?
I’ve been desperate to read these three for ages and am determined to get to before 2018. I’ve been wanting to read Vicious all year, so I can’t tell you how eager I can to turn the first page.
5. Is there a book that you think could still shock you and become your FAVOURITE?!
I’m not sure anything could top A Conjuring of Light, which has been my #1 book of this year (and perhaps my all-time favourite ever?!). But if there’s a book that could it’s another one of V’s masterpieces. I’ve only ever heard glowing praise for Vicious, so that could become my potential new favourite. We’ll have to wait and see.
6. Have you already made reading plans for 2018?
I haven’t decided on what my all-important first read of the year is going to be, but I plan to pre-order City of Brass, The Belles, and Vengeful, as well as finally getting to V. E. Schwab’s The Archived duology.
I also want to re-engage with a few manga series that I’ve drifted away from in recent years, and continue with Monstress and Lumberjanes, my two main graphic novels of the moment.
I’m planning on going to YALC again next year, as well as other literary events in the Midlands, so if you’re doing either of the same, let me now! And for the all important question: have I decided on my 2018 Reading Challenge Goal yet? No, no I have not. BUT, I’ll probably set my goal at 75 books again for next year or 85 if I’m feeling ambitious.
I’m not going to tag anyone this time, but if you’d like to do this tag, go for it! (It’s great fun so I’d definitely recommend it.) Which books do you still need to pick up before the end of 2017? I’d love to hear from you!
Love this post!
I really need to read something by V E Schwab! I love her as a person but just haven’t had a chance to read any of her ever growing list of books!
I’m going to YALC! We have to meet there ❤
Haha thanks lovely! I can’t recommend her books enough, they’re just incredible. I’d advise starting with the A Darker Shade of Magic trilogy, because it will sweep you away into a fantastical, magic land. (And also because it’s pretty much my favourite fantasy series ever 😉 ) Ooh yes, I’d love to meet up next year!
I have got it so I think it’ll deffo be where I start!
