We’re heading towards the end of November and I thought I’d post a brief update on how I’m doing with my Nano project.
My original goal was to pass 20k words and I’m pleased to say I’ve done it. My current word count stands at 30,054 words and hopefully I’ll be able to increase it a little more before the end of the month.
My other goal was to write every day, and I also managed to do that. I missed updating my word count on the Nano website one day, but I know I’ve written something every day. Even on the morning of my sister’s birthday, when we were driving across France to see her, I was furiously typing away in the back seat of the car.
So I’ve hit both my goals and I’m pretty satisfied with that, but there was a little part of me that really wanted to reach 50k. Despite working full time, commuting three hours a day, and doing four sports classes a week, I wanted to try and get there. And maybe I would have been able to if I’d put my sports on hold, or hadn’t met up with my boyfriend on weekends, but I didn’t want all the other aspects of my life that I enjoy to grind to a halt, and it was important to give myself breaks from writing to I could come back refreshed.
My sister also turned 21 this month and I’d been planning to go and visit her in France for months, so I knew I wasn’t going to get much writing done during that week, but seeing her was far more important than hitting my writing goal and I don’t regret it for one moment. My WIP would still be there at the end of the month, but she only turns 21 once and the memories we made over those few days will stay with me forever.
All that remains now is for me to keep writing a little each day and see where I end up on 30th November. Whatever my final word count is, I’m really happy I took part and pleased with what I’ve written so far. I’ve learned even more about myself as a writer this year, and can build on these experiences going forward.
If you’re taking part in Nanowrimo this year, how’s your WIP going? Are you still aiming for 50k or are you coasting like me? Drop me a comment and let me know!
Congrats on hitting both of your goals! That’s seriously amazing! 😀
Thanks Anna, that’s sweet of you to say! This WIP seems to have reignited my excitement for writing, so hopefully that will stay with me 🙂
That’s awesome!! 30k is such a feat, as well as writing every single day!!
Aww thanks Steph! I’m pleased I’ve passed 30k and will see if I can add a little more to my total by the end of November 🙂
Congratz on your goals!! ❤ and best of luck for this project 😉
Thank you my lovely! I’m hoping to add at least another couple of thousand words before the month is over, then who knows where it will go in the future. 🙂
