Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Books I was indifferent about starting and then, BAM, they had me at chapter one

It’s Tuesday once again!

For those not familiar, Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted over at The Broke and The Bookish, and this weeks theme is:

September 5Ten Books I Struggled to Get Into But Ended Up Loving, or Ten Books That Were A Chore To Get Through, or Ten Books I’ve Most Recently Put Down (the theme is books you had a hard time with, tweak it how ever you need)

For this week’s theme, I’ve gone with books that I was slightly apathetic about picking up, but once I started them, BAM, they had me.

I should clarify, it’s not that I wasn’t excited to read these books, I was just a lot more calm than normal and wasn’t expecting to be blown away, which is why it was such a great feeling when they hit me with the feels/action/humour.

Are there any books that you guys started and weren’t enthralled by, but then once they got going were pretty good reads? Have you read any of the books on this list? Let me know!

Until next time, Kate

  1. I feel this way about a lot of Stephen King’s books, though I haven’t read Carrie. The Shining started off pretty slow, but it definitely picked up by the end!

  2. So happy to see Angelfall on this list. It’s one of my favourite angle based fantasy series. I wish I could say the same for Passenger but I found the pacing of the book to be too slow for my liking. I still enjoyed it but I was sad that I didn’t love it because it had so much potential to be a favourite for me.

    1. Angelfall is a pretty good series, all three books are definite page turners! Yeah, I’ve seen a lot of reviews criticising the pace of Passenger, and to be honest I do think it could have been 75-100 pages shorter, but I don’t mind long books or slower pacing so I didn’t dislike it too much. 🙂 It’s a shame it didn’t end up living up to your expectations, but hopefully there’ll be other time travel books that do! Are you planning on reading Invictus at all? That’s about time travel. 🙂

      1. Invictus is one of my most anticipated books. I adore Ryan Graudin’s Wolf by Wolf series so I’m excited to see what this book has in store for us. 😀

  3. Great list and great picks for this week Kate. Passenger was one of the books I wasn’t that excited about starting but had me from chapter one as well. I didn’t really have any expectations and I picked it up on a whim but it ended up becoming one of my all-time favourite series! 😀
The only other two on your list I’ve read are Angelfall and The Girl From Everywhere but both of those I was really excited to start.
Again great picks for this week! 🙂

    1. Thanks Beth! Yeah, I ended up liking Passenger a fair bit! It sounds like you’ve read Wayfarer then? I still haven’t read it yet, but hopefully will eventually! 😛 It’s rare for me to not be excited to pick up a book, so I thought I’d write about the small number of books that it actually happened with!

  4. I haven’t read any of these yet, but I have both Passenger and Angelfall. I’m glad to see you really enjoyed them both – I’ll have to try and get to them soon!!
