Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag

Mid-YEar book freak out tag

Hey lovelies,

I was tagged by the wonderful Bex @Myshelfandmyself to do this tag, and I’ve seen it doing the rounds so I’m excited to finally be taking part. Thanks for thinking of me Bex!

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2017?

Wow, way to start with the hardest question. I’m supposed to pick one???
OK fine, I’m going to with these three.

2. Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2017?

I checked my Goodreads and I’ve actually read quite a lot of sequels this year so far! This was a close contest between Days of Blood and StarlightTraitor to the Throne, A Gathering of Shadows, and A Court of Mist and Fury, but in the end I narrowed it down to these two.

3. New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To?

GGTVV

This is an easy one: The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue. It’s one of my most anticipated releases of the year and I’ve got the e-book all lined up and waiting for me, but I just haven’t had time to read it yet because I’ve been reading in preparation for YALC!

4. Most Anticipated Release For Second Half of 2017?

Enchantment of Ravens

This book sounds wonderful. A fantasy adventure involving magic, art, and immortals? I’m in.

5. Biggest Disappointment?

HFF

I was hoping for so much with this book, but it just wasn’t for me. I found the characters dull, the plot inconsistent, and the narration was riddled with mistakes. It’s not one I’ll be coming back to.

6. Biggest Surprise?

RR

I expected this book to be good, but I’d never really read any Westerns before so I wasn’t expecting to absolutely adore it. The pacing was phenomenal and I read it in just over a day. The plot was gripping, the characters were dynamic and there was never a dull page.

 7. Favourite New Author (Debut or New To You)?

Laini_Taylor_(Ali_Smith_1B5

I’ve never read any Laini Taylor until this year, but I’ve now read her DOSAB trilogy and am hoping to begin Strange The Dreamer next month!

8. Newest Fictional Crush?

traitor-2

Probably Jin from the Rebel of the Sands series. I read Traitor to the Throne in February and I was reminded of how caring, cheeky and witty his character is. My heart did a little double beat of excitement when he first appeared again.

9. Newest Favourite Character?

There are SOOO many to choose from. If I had to narrow it down, I’d say:

Karou from the DOSAB trilogy
Alucard from A Gathering of Shadows
Baz from Carry On
Dimple from When Dimple Met Rishi

10. Book That Made You Cry?

Here are the offenders:

11. Book That Made You Happy?

Lumberjanes

The cute female friendships and humorous illustrations in Lumberjanes made me really happy. It was such a cheerful read.

12. Favourite Book To Movie Adaptation You Saw This Year?

WW

When answer this question, I realised that I’ve barely been to the cinema this year. And I tend to watch TV series far more than I watch films. But, I’d have to go with Wonder Woman, since it’s an adaptation of the graphic novels. It was one of the most empowering films I’ve ever seen, and has inspired so many people since its release.

13. Favourite Review You’ve Written This Year?

Probably my review for Do Not Say We Have Nothing. I was in a poetic mood when I wrote it and I think that accidentally bled into the writing, but I ended up liking how it turned out.

14. Most Beautiful Book You Bought or Received So Far This Year?

It’s got to be a toss-up between these three. But if I owned a physical copy of Strange The Dreamer yet then that would be at the top of the list.

15. What Books Do You Need To Read By The End of The Year?

Umm, how long do you have? These are just a few of the books I’m most eager to get to:

Since we’re slightly past the mid-way point in the year, I’m not going to tag anyone to do this, but if you’d like to then feel free!

Have you read any of these books? Or are they on your list of books to get to by the end of 2017? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Until next time, Kate

  1. I haven’t read the Gentleman’s Guide yet either! But I also have a copy waiting for me, I just need to find time to sit down and actually read it! I also have never read anything by Laini Taylor, but I’ve been hearing so many amazing things about her books lately and I really can’t wait to start reading those either!
