The Friday 56

The Friday 56: Eating Animals

Hey guys, happy Friday once again, I hope you’ve had a great week!

The Friday 56 is a weekly blog meme hosted by Freda’s Voice. The idea is to share an excerpt from a book you’ve been reading every Friday, to promote the book or simply just to showcase your current read!

Friday56

Rules:
*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader
(If you have to improvise, that’s OK.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don’t spoil it)
*Post it.
*Add your (url) post below in Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url.
*It’s that simple

This week I’m still reading ACOWAR, I finished Retribution Rails and Lambs Can Always Become Lions, and I’ve just started Eating Animals, so that’s where this week’s quote is taken from!Eating Animals

When it comes to animal welfare, the absolute bare minimum, the least we could conceivably give, would seem to be euthanizing downed animals [an animal that has collapsed]. But that costs money, and downers have no use and so earn no regard or mercy. In most of America’s fifty states it is perfectly legal (and perfectly common) to simply let downers die of exposure over days or toss them, live, into dumpsters.

I’m only 70 pages into this book and already it’s incredibly powerful. As a vegan, the author’s ideals and pleas for ethical equality and kindness towards animals really resonate with me, and I’m intrigued to see where this book goes.

What are you reading this weekend? Have you ever read anything by Jonathan Safran Foer? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time, Kate
