The Friday 56: Truthwitch

Hey everyone, happy Easter!

The Friday 56 is a weekly blog meme hosted by Freda’s Voice. The idea is to share an excerpt from a book you’ve been reading every Friday, to promote the book or simply just to showcase your current read!

Friday56

Rules:
*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader
(If you have to improvise, that’s OK.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don’t spoil it)
*Post it.
*Add your (url) post below in Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url.
*It’s that simple

This week I’ve gone for Truthwitch, one of the books I’ve just started.

Truthwitch

But her eyes and her magic caught something off. Threads like she’d never seen before. Directly beside her… on the corpse.

Her gaze slid to the cleaved man’s body. Blackened blood… and perhaps something else oozed from his ears, between the cobblestones. The pustules on his body had erupted – some of that oily spray was on Iseult’s splashed skirts and sweaty bodice.
Any yet, though the man was undoubtedly dead, there were still three Threads wriggling over his chest. Like maggots, they shimmied and coiled inward. Short Threads. The Threads that break.

Although this book got off to a slow start, I’m at page 87 and it’s definitely starting to pick up. I’m not in love with the writing style, but the plot and characters are gradually becoming more engaging as the book progresses, so here’s hoping it continues to improve.

Have you read Truthwitch? If so what did you think? Let’s discuss in the comments!

Until next time, Kate

  1. I did read Truthwitch, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped I would. I found it to be rather disappointing. I do hope you end up liking it more than I did! 😀

    1. I’m wondering if I’m going to feel the same to be honest. The writing style is quite slow-paced, even during action scenes and I’m enjoying the world-building more now that I’m at p.100, but there was a bit too much info-dumping at the start. I’ll have to see how it goes!
