How is it June already. We’re already half way into the year.
But it’s also my birthday month, and that means lots of new books. YES.
Anyway! I read quite a few more books than I’d planned to in May, which I was really pleased about and they were all (except for one) great books. I mean, I diverged quite wildly from my TBR, but there was a good reason for that.
Just after I planned and posted my TBR, I joined another library, then went down and promptly took out eight books. So of course, because all these books had to be returned by a certain date, I started reading them first.
The first book I read was Sabriel by Garth Nix (read my full review here: https://coffeeinonehandbookintheother.wordpress.com/2016/05/30/book-review-sabriel/) and it was a really great book. I gave it 4/5 stars.
The next two books I read this month were Bleach volumes 33 and 34 by Tite Kubo. Bleach is one of my favourite mangas but for some reason I stopped reading it ages ago, so it was really good to get back into it and carry on with the plot arc. I gave volume 33 3.5/5 stars and volume 34 4/5 stars.
The next book I read this month was Superpowers by David J. Schwartz. I really didn’t enjoy this book for a number of reasons (review to come) and I gave it 1.5/5 stars.
I also read The Raven Boys, the first book in the Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater. I thought the book had issues with its plot and pacing at first, but once I got past the first 100 pages it really took off (review to come). I gave this book 4/5 stars.
The final book I read this month was Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo (review to follow). I liked this book A LOT. Seriously, this is a great book. I thought it had an excellent blend of action and character development, and the magic system and world-building elements were incredibly immersive. I gave this 4.5/5 stars.
So as you can see, I didn’t get round to The Bone Season or How to Build a Girl as I’d originally planned, but I’ll probably add them to my June or July TBR. For now, that’s my May wrap-up all done and dusted. I’ll be posting my June TBR very soon.
